Iona Gray – Callands – West Linton
Iona started driving lessons at the beginning of the summer, she had just finished exams and left Peebles High school and was ready to start college in Edinburgh in August. On our first driving lesson we drove from Callands along back roads to Peebles going through the basics, not before too long we arrived in Peebles and drove around some of the housing estates getting to grips with junctions and meeting situations. Iona seemed to get the hang of the car very quickly, and achieved so much in her first driving lesson I was very impressed with her progress. We discussed that the driving test waiting list in Peebles was often very long, and that if Iona was going to be driving to college in Edinburgh, that learning to driving in Edinburgh would make sense. I also think that you get so much more experience driving in Edinburgh setting you up for when you pass. Iona was up for this so we drove into Edinburgh on our next driving lesson. We managed to look at a selection of roundabouts and also the Edinburgh city bypass which Iona seemed to take in her stride. Iona had a lot of commitments as she just started a job at GoApe in Peebles at the forest of Glentress and also has a horse which she needs to take care of so driving was becoming more and more of a requirement. We managed to find a test date that suited both of us in Edinburgh and we had a month to prepare, in this time we carried out a mock driving test and fine tuned any mistakes Iona was making hopefully getting us all ready for the big day. When test day came Iona was going to be the third driving test I had that week and the first two had passed first time this just added to the pressure a little but Iona did not disappoint going out and passing first time in Edinburgh at the Currie test centre giving me a perfect week. This will change Iona’s life forever as she now has the freedom to keep up with her busy lifestyle well done.
