Learning to Drive in Juniper Green
Building confidence from the start.

Isla, from the Juniper Green area of Edinburgh, started driving lessons just before the summer holidays last year. Having previously taught her cousin Eilidh to drive successfully, it was now Isla’s turn to take on the challenge and work towards her own licence.

We began from the very start in a quiet housing estate just along the road from Isla’s home. This gave her the perfect environment to build confidence and become familiar with the basics — starting, stopping, steering control, and developing steady clutch control.

From the outset, Isla was determined and focused. She progressed steadily, taking on new challenges with a positive attitude. Living in Juniper Green, she was right in the heart of the Currie test area, meaning every lesson from her front door could potentially mirror part of her real test route. This familiarity helped her become comfortable with the smaller details that can sometimes catch learners out.

As we worked through the full syllabus, Isla’s confidence and consistency continued to grow. Before long, she was ready to attempt a mock driving test — and she performed very well. While there were a few areas to polish, everything felt well within reach.

Due to the ongoing wait for driving test availability, we spaced lessons out slightly while Isla searched for a test date. Once a date was secured, we planned a focused burst of weekly lessons in the run-up to test day to sharpen everything up.

Test day arrived quickly, and confidence was high. After all the preparation and familiarity with the area, Isla delivered when it mattered most and passed her driving test on her first attempt at the Currie test centre.

A brilliant achievement.

Well done, Isla 🚗
