How Nat Built on Previous Experience to Pass His Driving Test in Edinburgh
Nat came to me as a university student in Edinburgh with a clear goal in mind — to bring his driving together and get himself on the road for the summer. Unlike some learners, Nat wasn’t starting completely from scratch. He had some previous driving experience behind him, which meant our first lesson was less about the basics and more about getting a clear picture of where he was.
On that first outing, we assessed Nat’s driving thoroughly and identified a few key areas where some focused development would really help. Rather than just getting straight into lessons, Nat and I sat down together and worked out a clear plan for how we were going to tackle those areas. That kind of structured approach makes a real difference, and Nat bought into it straight away.
From the very beginning, Nat was a pleasure to work with — determined, enthusiastic and always willing to put the work in. We practised predominantly in the Currie area of Edinburgh, which is one of the best places to prepare a learner for the full range of driving challenges. Currie has it all — large multi-lane roundabouts, tighter housing estate roads and even stretches of country road. It is not the easiest area to learn in, but that is exactly what makes it such good preparation for a driving test.
Nat picked up the area quickly, and before long we were in a position to carry out a mock driving test. The mock gave us a clear picture of exactly where Nat stood, and after talking everything through, we shifted our focus to fine-tuning the final details. Once we both felt ready, we made the decision to put lessons on hold while waiting for the test date to come around.
In the week before Nat’s driving test, we resumed lessons to get everything sharp again — and it all came back brilliantly. On the day of the test, we arrived at the Currie test centre and I was genuinely confident that Nat was going to perform well.
And he did. Nat passed his driving test on his first attempt at the Currie test centre. A fantastic result that was thoroughly deserved after all the hard work he put in.
Well done Nat — enjoy the summer and the freedom that comes with a full driving licence!
