Matthew Grant – West Linton
Matthew started driving lessons in the summer holidays just before starting sixth year at Peebles high school. I had taught his older brother Cameron to drive last summer, so hopefully we could get Matthew on the road very soon. We drove from West Linton down to Penicuik on our first driving lesson and Matthew managed to have a go at going in and out of junctions, changing through all the gears, and even finishing driving through a small roundabout! Not bad at all for his first ever time driving! Matthew progressed very quickly during driving lessons and got to practice with his mum in their car between seeing me. This meant every time I saw Matthew he had mastered what we had been looking at during the previous driving lesson and we could move onto the next thing. We started focusing on doing our driving lessons in Edinburgh as we had made our mind up that that’s where we were going to sit the driving test when ready. We brought everything together with the driving and had to take a short break as Matthew hadn’t done his theory test yet. As soon as Matthew got that out the way we lined up a driving test in Edinburgh. This fell just before Peebles high school stopped for its Christmas holidays, this meant if Matthew passed he would have lots of freedom over the Christmas holidays. Matthew was the last driving test I had for 2015 and I really wanted to end the year on a high. I knew he was very capable of delivering some consistent driving! Matthew didn’t disappoint, passing in time for Christmas and bringing 2015 to a fantastic end for me! Well done.
