Freya – Newington
Freya got in touch looking for a driving instructor in Newington. Freya was in her final year of university and was going to be finishing her course by the summer of 2023. So having a driving licence for the next chapter of her life was going to be extremely helpful. We began driving lessons at the end of 2022. Freya had never driven before so we were starting from the very start. For the first driving lesson, I picked Freya up from Edinburgh University at Kings Buildings in Edinburgh and decided to take her to the Braids areas to begin with. In this area of Edinburgh, the roads are pretty quiet and good for getting the hang of the car.
We talked about the basics, how some things would be examined during a driving test and then got to work on getting some control of the car. Freya did really well.
After a couple of lessons, Freya could drive on the roads with instruction, we looked at junctions, clutch control and all the small situations that pop up regularly in your average housing estates. We progressed steadily from lesson to lesson and always came up with a plan of what we would try to either learn or improve on our next driving lesson.
Freya successfully booked, sat and passed her theory test and managed to book a driving test shortly after. To begin with, Freya had a driving test booked for summertime, we hoped we would be ready before then, but just left the test date scheduled for then while we perfected some of the skills. After carrying out a few mock driving tests and Freya starting to do some practice with her friend as well things quickly came together. At this point, we decided to see how soon Freya could find a driving test date. She was in luck managing to find and book a driving test for a couple of weeks later.
Freya booked an 8 am test, which involved an early start but at least she wouldn’t have all-day worrying about it. I collected Freya early at her flat at 0630am we headed from Newington to the Currie area of Edinburgh carrying out manoeuvres and different exercises on the way. After practicing everything one last time and everything going to plan we arrived and got parked up for the test. I was really confident that Freya wouldn’t have any problems, even with the added situation of me having a different car as my Fiesta was currently away getting repaired. I was right to be confident. Freya arrived back after 50 minutes with the examiner to be told that she had passed and it was a really good drive. Well done Freya, she now has the freedom to come and go from Newington as much as she likes.
