Eilidh’s Driving Success: From Beginner to Confident Driver in Edinburgh
Eilidh, from the Bonaly area of Edinburgh, reached out about starting driving lessons in the summer of 2024. As a complete beginner, she was eager to learn, and from day one, her positive attitude made a huge difference in her progress.
Getting Started in Bonaly
We began our lessons in a quiet area near her home, working on the basics of clutch control, stopping, and starting. Eilidh quickly showed determination, not letting mistakes slow her down. Her enthusiasm and willingness to improve meant steady progress every week.
Building Confidence Behind the Wheel
As the weeks went on, Eilidh tackled new challenges, refining her skills in more complex road situations. From navigating through Morningside’s busy streets to handling roundabouts and manoeuvres, she adapted well to each challenge.
Mock Tests & A Change of Car!
Before her test, we conducted multiple mock driving tests, which helped pinpoint areas that needed extra attention. Around the same time, I switched to a new car—an adjustment that could have thrown her off, but Eilidh adapted quickly and mastered the differences in no time.
Finding a Driving Test Slot
By Christmas, she was test-ready, but like many learners in Edinburgh, finding a driving test slot was a challenge. Eilidh took a short break while searching for a cancellation and eventually secured a test for early March. To stay sharp, we scheduled occasional refresher lessons, focusing on areas she wanted to improve.
Test Day at Currie Test Centre
On the morning of her test, I picked Eilidh up early from her home in Bonaly for one last practice session. She performed brilliantly, showing confidence and skill. By the time we arrived at the Currie test centre, I had no doubt she was ready.
After 40 minutes of driving with the examiner, she returned with the fantastic news—she had passed on her first attempt! 🎉
