Alexa – Peebles
Alexa began driving lessons at the very end of the summer last year. Before starting driving lessons, she had already been out with her dad a few times around the Peebles area. This was great as it meant that Alexa had basic control of the car. On our first outing we drove around some of the estates in Peebles and worked on some basic clutch control before advancing it. Alexa did well managing to progress very quickly from each driving lesson. After about four times of going out, we had covered everything which was really good. We were now at the stage Alexa just needed to practice and build consistency in her driving. All the practice she was getting with her dad was really helping improve things quickly. I discussed with Alexa that it might be worth considering sitting her driving test in Edinburgh as I feel that there is a lot more experience to be had in Edinburgh compared to Peebles and also the driving test waiting list is never as long as it is in Peebles. Alexa was up for going to Edinburgh for the rest of her driving lessons so we managed to arrange for a lesson where her dad joined us and got to see where we were going and things that would be good for Alexa to develop her skills in. Alexa booked a driving test for the first day of her February break from school and after a very busy month in December resumed driving lessons mid-January. On the day of the driving test a met Alexa at Straiton where her mum dropped her off so we could begin driving in the Edinburgh area straight away. We had a look at a little bit of everything ensuring Alexa was properly warmed up and ready for her test. Snow was forecast but just before the test began it was still clear, so the test went ahead. As I was waiting at the driving test centre for Alexa to return it started to snow and it just kept building. Alexa returned and informed that she had passed, and with only one driving fault it sounded like she had done incredibly well! The examiner commented saying that the conditions with the snow had got slightly worse as the test went on but there was nothing that had phased Alexa. What a great result.
