Callum Macrae – West Linton
Callum’s mum got in touch about driving lessons in October last year, at the time I was completely full with learners but agreed that I could begin mid November. Callum had never driven before, so on our first outing we drove from West Linton down to Penicuik mastering the basics and setting him up with a good understanding of the road. Callum did really well and each lesson we managed to progress moving onto something new the following driving lesson. Callum was a keen rugby player so we worked our driving lessons around when he was free to go out driving. We did some driving lesson through in Peebles and some around West Linton before deciding that we were going to sit the driving test in Edinburgh. For the final few months of going out we really focused on Edinburgh looking at the bigger roundabouts and the features that Edinburgh had to offer. We carried out a mock test which didn’t go so well, Callum told me that he hadn’t been that nervous for a very long time. After doing a little more practice Callum managed to get far more consistent and his judgment and control of the car had really come on. We tried another mock test, this time it was so much better so we decided to book a driving test and then sort out the small details between now and test day. Working hard as a team we got through everything that was needing done and were ready for the test. On the day I had already had a driving test that morning and Callum knew they had passed and his friends Jack and Hannah had managed to pass first time a few weeks before him so the pressure was on. Callum looked relaxed as he left the driving test centre with the examiner thought and he came back to find out that he had passed first time. I was really happy for him, what a great start for the exams to come . Well done Callum.
