Madeleine – Carlops Scottish Borders
Madeleine got in touch about learning to drive just after the second covid lockdown, I was really struggling for space to begin straight away as things were such a mess with driving lessons at the time. Living in Carlops I was the closest driving instructor to Madeleine so she was willing to wait until I had some space to begin. As the summer went on I slowly started to get through the people I had with some passing and some leaving to go to university.
We finally managed to begin driving lessons at the end of the summer. On our first driving lesson, we went for a big lesson and headed down to Penicuik from Carlops. Trying to cover all the basics and get the general foundations of driving started for Madeleine. We managed to look at how the car worked, using the mirrors, driving in and out of junctions and by the end of the driving lesson we had been in every gear excluding reverse so Madeleine managed a lot on her first lesson. This gave her plenty of things to go and practice with her dad when she was going out practising in the Carlops area between driving lessons.
The great thing about Madeleine practicing regularly between driving lessons meant that progress was fast and noticeable each time we went out. The next thing we needed was Madeleine to sit and pass her theory test which she successfully managed before Christmas, this now set us up to get a driving test booked and have everything ready for it. Madeleine managed to book a driving test for the end of January during her exam leave.
The date was set and we came up with a final plan which I was really pleased with how Madeleine did. We left Carlops on a really windy morning which was pretty horrible conditions to sit a driving test in. I was delighted though because Madeleine passed on her first attempt. She can now come and go from Carlops whenever she pleases. Well done.
