Ranald’s Road to Success: Passing His Driving Test in Edinburgh
Ranald, a resident of Morningside, Edinburgh, reached out for driving lessons in 2024 with the goal of finally securing his driving licence. Having previously taken lessons in Stirling but never progressing to the test, he was determined to complete his journey this time around. With university coming to an end and a new job on the horizon, gaining his licence was set to be a life-changing milestone.

In our first lesson, we assessed Ranald’s existing driving skills and formulated a plan to ensure steady progress. Morningside’s busy streets provided the perfect training ground, filled with various clutch control challenges, planning scenarios, and unpredictable traffic situations that would help him build confidence behind the wheel.
The Power of Mock Tests
As Ranald developed his skills, we introduced mock driving tests early on to simulate real exam conditions. These not only helped pinpoint areas for improvement but also allowed him to experience the pressure of test conditions. With each mock test, his confidence grew, and we refined any remaining weak points in his driving.
Ranald’s structured approach was key to his success—each week, we alternated between full mock tests and targeted lessons to address any issues that arose. This method ensured that by the time his test date arrived, he was as prepared as possible.
Test Day Success
With a driving test booked for early March 2025, we focused on final refinements in the lead-up to the big day. On the morning of the test, I picked up Ranald for a final warm-up session. While there were a few minor nerves, he performed well, and I was confident in his ability to pass.
After arriving at the Currie Test Centre in Edinburgh, Ranald set off with the examiner while I waited anxiously for his return. Forty-five minutes later, he came back with fantastic news—he had passed! The examiner confirmed that there were no major issues, making his success even more rewarding.
A Newfound Freedom
Now, with his full driving licence in hand, Ranald is free to explore the roads of Edinburgh and beyond.
