Miyu Du – Craiglockhart Edinburgh
Miyu got in touch about learning to drive in the summer of 2015. I had previously taught one of her friends Shuping to drive in 2014. Miyu had never driven before so for our first driving lesson we went through the basics. Learning all about how the car worked and what pedal did what and so on. Miyu was always full of questions and enthusiasm which was great as it meant together we managed to sort anything Miyu didn’t understand out fairly quickly. After doing a few driving lessons around the Morningside area we were progressing well. We were then looking at more challenging things, and trying to build on anticipation and planning what was going on ahead. After we had covered everything and done a little practice around Edinburgh we decided to try a mock driving test to see how Miyu would get on with no help. Miyu would probably tell you that she didn’t do that well in her first mock test, but I thought there was a lot of potential in it. Miyu just needed to slow a few things down, and it would all fall into place. We continued with practice after having an in depth conversation about what Miyu could improve. We were going out regularly on a Saturday morning and I was trying to vary the routes so we could gain more experience out of the areas we were driving in. We tried a second mock driving test and Miyu did so much better, we were both excited as it was time to book the real driving test and see how she could get on with a real driving examiner. Miyu took a half day and had her driving test booked for the 1st of March, I collected her one hour before the driving test and we headed over to the Currie area in Edinburgh were the driving test centre is. After a quick warm up we packed up and wandered into the driving test centre. Miyu seemed calm and focused and in my opinion had no reason to worry as she was consistent and had a full knowledge and understanding about driving. After around about 40 minutes Miyu returned back to the car park and was told the good news that she had passed and that it had been a really good drive. I was so happy, Miyu was then heading into work to share the good news with her friends and colleagues. Well done.
