Tara – Morningside Edinburgh
Tara’s dad got in touch about organising driving lessons for her when she finished school in 2019. Living in the Morningside area of Edinburgh there were going to be plenty of things that would provide challenges for us while learning to drive. Tara had never been behind the wheel of a car before but was excited to get her driving underway. During the summer of 2019, we carried out weekly driving lessons. Tara progressed steadily and also managed to book and sit her driving test in August of 2019. As the summer came to an end Tara was due to be heading away to university. We were at the stage that things were starting to come together. Tara could handle driving around the Morningside area of Edinburgh pretty consistently now, this was impressive, especially Morningside road, which seems to have a different challenge on it each time you drive up it. We decided that when Tara returned from university in the summer of 2020 we would bring everything together for her and sit a driving test. Then of course the Coronavirus hit the UK bringing all driving instructors and driving lessons to a stop.
During the summer of 2020, Tara was hopefully waiting for driving lesson restrictions to be lowered in Scotland to allow her to get her driving test done before returning to university. Unfortunately, driving instructors in Edinburgh weren’t allowed to return to work until the last week of August and driving tests didn’t resume in Scotland until mid-September this wasn’t going to work for Tara as she was returning to university. We had to wait for the summer of 2021 resuming at the start of June. Tara booked a driving test for the very start of August which was very lucky as her theory test ran out a few weeks later as with all the lockdowns and things it was coming up for two years since Tara had sat it.
Carrying out weekly driving lessons Tara got straight back into it and also did lots of driving with her mum and dad in the dual control hire cars from Arnold Clark. Lots had actually changed in Edinburgh since we were last out especially in the Morningside area of Edinburgh with lots of new cycle lanes and speed limits. Tara did really well adapting to the changes and progressed quickly.
As the weeks went by suddenly the test was rolling in fast, Tara was all ready for it, she had managed to fix any of the small mistakes she had been making and had been using the videos I have on YouTube to revise. Tara always had questions about things which we made sure we answered for her and hopefully, this helped make sure she had a plan for most situations.
With an early start on Friday morning, we set off and did a selection of things before Tara’s test, she was driving really well and seemed confident which was great. Tara went on to pass her test on her first attempt at the Currie test centre. This now gives her the freedom to come and go from Morningside whenever she feels like it. Well done Tara.
