Rachel – Morningside Edinburgh
Rachel was the last in her family to start driving lessons, living in the Morningside area of Edinburgh I had been lucky enough to teach both of her other sisters over the years to drive. Rachel began when she turned seventeen. We started driving lessons in quieter estates around Morningside, getting used to the basic skills, stopping and starting and going in and out of junctions. Rachel did really well picking up the new skills very quickly.
After we had the basic skills mastered it was time to try and do laps of Morningside itself. Morningside Road is a great section to drive through in driving lessons as it sets you up for most busy sections that you would find in Edinburgh or any other big city. Rachel managed to cope really well and could follow what we were doing.
With steady progress and Rachel getting to go out driving with her mum and dad between driving lessons, the next thing we needed was for Rachel to sit and pass her theory test. Once this was done we would look at booking the driving test soon afterwards. Just as Rachel organised her theory test there was news beginning to build of a new virus called coronavirus! Before Rachel had a chance to sit her theory test the whole country was in lockdown. After the lockdown, Rachel tried to arrange another theory test which she managed to book in Glasgow and then unfortunately restrictions again were increased so she never got to sit that.
After a frustrating wait and lots of cancellations, Rachel finally got her theory test done and out the way. I believe Rachel is one of the last people I have from before the lockdowns started and I was so happy to see her finally get a chance of sitting her driving test and passing on her first attempt. Now Rachel is free to come and go from Morningside exploring all sorts of places in Edinburgh. Well done enjoy the freedom.
