Robert McGrath – Dolphinton
Robert started driving lessons as he was just taking his exams in his final year at Biggar high school. We started on our first driving lesson on some back roads just outside Dolphinton, this led through to Blyth Bridge, when driving along this road we practiced starting and stopping, changing gears and with the road being a little twisty steering was also being practiced without even knowing it. As we approached the end of the road we then talked about junctions and Robert seemed to follow everything I talked about and wasn’t afraid to ask any questions which was great as Robert made sure he had a solid understanding of everything. We started driving through to Peebles as we progressed and Robert improved every time we went out which was very encouraging. After Robert passed his theory test the waiting list for the Peebles driving test was well into October and by this time Robert would have started university in Edinburgh and be living in accommodation Edinburgh, so Peebles wasn’t going to work. Hopefully we had done a lot more than just leant to drive in Peebles. This was put to the test as we started practicing in Edinburgh, Robert did very well adapting to new areas of Edinburgh that he had never driven around before. Robert took a slight break from driving lessons when he started at university as he didn’t know what his timetable and routine was going to be, he resumed at the end of October and had a driving test booked for the very start of December. This was also the same week as Roberts first exams at university also. The week before Roberts driving test we went out for our final driving lesson and we tried to recap everything that we had covered over the summer. Robert did really well and was consistent and relaxed during this driving lesson, so hopefully the driving test would be very similar. Robert managed to pass his driving test first time and was told that he had driven very well by the driving examiner. This meant that his week was of to a great start! Hopefully building momentum for his exams later on in the week. Being a keen competitive cyclist and taking part in all sorts of sporting activities having a driving licence will give Robert the freedom to drive all over to take part in anything he wants which was very exciting. Well done.
