Rory – Kitleyknowe Scottish Borders
Rory was in his final year at Peebles high school when he started driving lessons. A few years earlier I had the pleasure of teaching his older brother Angus to drive who had managed to pass his driving test on his first attempt in Edinburgh so we had nothing but high standards to try and follow. We began driving lessons at the end of 2016 when a lot of the lesson we were doing were taking place in the dark. This added to the challenge but also gave Rory valuable skills. Rory seemed to manage each thing we covered and getting to practice with his mum and dad out with driving lessons really made progress quickly. After a little bit of fine tuning, we tried a mock driving test which I was very impressed with how Rory did. He managed to stay focused and any mistakes he made didn’t seem to bother him which was brilliant. All we needed now was for Rory to pass his theory test so we could line up the practical test. We agreed to put driving lessons on hold for a few weeks and resume once he had the practical test booked and lined up. Rory managed to find a driving test in the easter holidays. This was great as it meant he didn’t need to miss any school, also the pressure of everyone working out that you are missing wasn’t going to exist. On the day of the driving test, we got underway early at 0645am as Rory had the first test of the day at 0810am. After a short warm up we got parked up and hopefully, everything was all set for Rory to do his thing. I wasn’t worried at all having every confidence that Rory would be able to handle whatever he was assessed on. Rory didn’t disappoint passing first time in Edinburgh with only three driving faults. What a great way to end his easter holidays.
