Ross Gardiner – West Linton
Ross started driving lessons while in his final year at Peebles high school. I had had the pleasure of teaching his big sister Eleanor a few years ago. During driving lessons we practiced in a number of areas including Peebles, Penicuik and Edinburgh. This built lots of experience fairly quickly and included many different features on the road which we learnt to deal with as time went on. Ross took a break from driving as his final exams started at the end of sixth year and he had a lot of things happening over the summer holidays also. We resumed in September this year, Ross was now working in Edinburgh so it made sense that we focused the remainder of our driving lessons in Edinburgh and sat the driving test there. Ross booked a driving test at the Currie test centre in Edinburgh so this meant we now had a date to work towards. We had a more detailed look at Calder road discussing how all the lanes worked on the roundabouts, and got to a level the Ross was very consistent driving through even the busiest places Edinburgh had to offer. On the day of the driving test when I arrived to collect Ross he couldn’t find his provisional driving licence. This is required for the driving test which wasn’t a good start. He explained that he had been looking for an hour! This wasn’t good as it would mean we would have to book another test, he decided to have one last look and luckily he found it so with the panic over we headed into Edinburgh from West Linton to see how we would get on. Ross did really well passing his driving test in Edinburgh. This now means he no longer has to get up at 5am to catch multiple buses for work! Well done.
