Driving Lessons in Edinburgh

Smart preparation and focused lessons paid off

After her friend Fern passed at the start of March, Hannah got in touch to arrange driving lessons. She had already been learning with her dad and another instructor but was looking for more progress and structure. Based in Midlothian but coming into Edinburgh and attending school here, we were able to slot driving lessons into the free time she had in her schedule.

From the very first lesson, Hannah did really well. We focused on refining a few technical points like the order of pressing the accelerator and clutch. Once she had that nailed, her control improved massively, especially during hill starts and junctions. Over the next few weeks, we covered all the topics, and it was brilliant to see Hannah’s confidence build.

We carried out a mock driving test which gave us a great picture of where she was at. The main thing we worked on was Hannah’s approach speed, particularly when coming into roundabouts — it was just a touch too quick and didn’t leave enough time to assess and react. Within one lesson, she had adapted beautifully and settled into a more measured and calm approach.

Soon after, Hannah found a test cancellation and grabbed the date, giving us just a few weeks to fine-tune the final details. She was really proactive, watching the YouTube videos on my website and keeping everything fresh in her mind in between lessons.

When test day rolled around, I collected her and we headed out for a short warm-up, covering a bit of everything. Hannah was driving with a calmness and clarity that made me really confident. At the Currie test centre, I waited as she went off with her examiner — and when they returned, I was delighted to hear she had passed first time, with great feedback from the examiner on how well she drove.

Well done Hannah! A brilliant effort and very well deserved.
