Shuping – Longstone Edinburgh
I will remember Shuping forever as when she started driving lessons she spoke little to no English! This was going to be a new challenge for both of us. Driving is complicated enough to explain to people but how we were going to do this was completely new to me. Using lots of pictures, a Google translation app and covering little bits at a time Shuping got to grips with driving around a housing estate. We just stuck to the same lap and Shuping was not only learning to drive the car she was also learning car-related English from me.
Obviously, Edinburgh has a lot more to cover and we needed to really make sure that the control Shuping had was good enough that if she was confused or didn’t understand that she was still very safe with the car.
Completing weekly driving lessons we slowly worked through everything and eventually felt ready to take the skills to be examined by a driving examiner. Shuping did it passing her driving test in November and also could speak a lot more English by this time, even if some of the words were more driving-related like biting point and mirror signal manoeuvre. What a great result.
