Sarah Hudson – Peebles
Sarah’s mum got in touch with me at the end of the summer last year to arrange driving lessons for Sarah. I had taught Sarah’s sister Jenny a few years earlier and she had done really well in Peebles passing first time. The pressure was now on for both Sarah and myself to try and match that. When Sarah began driving lessons I was very busy, so our first driving lesson took place on a Saturday evening. This was good as the traffic in Peebles was reasonably quiet, meaning we could get more done than normal. Sarah did really well, we managed to cover a huge amount of things. By the end of the first driving lesson Sarah was driving through roundabouts junctions and pedestrian crossings without much help! Sarah then did lots of practice with her mum and dad, this was really good as her mum and dad managed to bring the consistency of Sarah’s driving right up to a very high standard. We met up for a few lessons in October and everything was coming together all Sarah needed to do was her theory test so we arranged to resume after that. Sarah got in touch just before Christmas to say that she had successfully passed her theory test and that the waiting list in Peebles was so big would we be able to try Edinburgh. I was more than happy to do so as I believe if you can drive then you can pass your test anywhere. Sarah told me that she also had plans to move out to America for a few months in the summer and would need a driving licence for that. Just before Christmas Sarah and her dad met with me and we did a driving lesson all around the Currie area of Edinburgh this gave Sarah a chance to see what was involved and her dad an understanding of where he could practice with Sarah. The driving test was booked for February so Sarah had plenty of time to practice as she was up in Edinburgh regularly for netball and her mum and dad were happy to add some practice in with that journey. When the driving test day rolled in Sarah was very consistent and capable so I was extremely confident that she was going to have no problems at all. I was delighted to hear that she had passed and the examiner didn’t really have much to say. What a great way to end the week! Also sets Sarah up to drive to her job and fully enjoy her adventure to California later this year. Well done.
