Calum Knott – West Linton

Calum started driving lessons late summer, I had taught his neighbour Hannah to drive. Calum had done some driving with his dad before we went out. This was great as he had all the basics of driving mastered already. This meant we progressed very quickly through things. Calum had his own car which was a huge motivation to get on the road as soon as possible, especially as Calum goes to school in Edinburgh, this would mean no more buses and lots of freedom. We worked our way through all areas of driving often discussing topics in great depth, this helped as we made sure all scenarios were thought of. By the end of the summer we were in the final stages and beginning to think about booking Calum’s driving test in Edinburgh. The school commitments Calum had though, with a trip to New York and lots of events on the run up to christmas seemed to break our rhythm slightly as availability for driving tests did not completely suit us. Calum continued to practice with his mum and dad though, and got in contact just before christmas to say he had found a driving test in Edinburgh that was just after new year. Luckily I was free so we snapped it up and agreed we would go out one more time two days before Calum’s driving test. The lesson before was great Calum was consistent and the practice that he had done with his mum and dad since I had seen him was noticeable. On the day of the driving test we left heading into Edinburgh in complete darkness. We were running through everything before the driving test and in the final fifteen minutes before the driving test Calum told me he was feeling the pressure, telling me that the nerves were really kicking in. I insisted that he had nothing to worry about and to try not to overthink it.Calum left the driving test centre with the examiner and upon return I could see that the examiner had very little on the driving test sheet! Calum had passed first time with only one small driving fault, what a drive and continuing the first time pass’ of 2016.
