Focused lessons, calm driving, and smart test prep across Edinburgh
Caera, based in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh, got in touch around Easter to restart driving lessons. She’d learned with another instructor about five years ago and had also been out with her mum and boyfriend, so there was a solid foundation to build on.
We met weekly, quickly mapped out a plan, and prioritised a few areas to perfect. Caera is a fast learner: determined, organised, and keen to refine the details. Staying close to the Currie test centre, we practised extensively in the Currie area to build familiarity with local routes, roundabouts, and junctions.
After several weeks—plus mock driving tests—she was ready. The challenge then became the same one many Edinburgh learners face: actually finding a test slot. At the start of summer, Caera checked the DVSA site regularly and signed up for a cancellation app. To keep things efficient, we paused formal lessons while she continued practising with her boyfriend.
The earliest date she could secure was early October—not ideal, but workable. In the meantime, life moved on: Caera relocated to Glasgow to begin university and, during the waiting period, broke her wrist. The silver lining? It had fully healed by test time.
A few weeks before the test, she travelled through from Glasgow on Tuesday afternoons to fine-tune the final details. She slipped straight back into form, calm and consistent. On test day, we met for one last warm-up around Currie, then headed into the centre. About 45 minutes later, she returned with the result we’d hoped for: a first-attempt pass, with feedback that it was a good drive.
Well done, Caera—now for the exciting part: choosing a car and enjoying the freedom of the road.
