driving instructor near morningside

From EU Roads to UK Licence
Egor’s first-time pass in Musselburgh.

Egor, who lives in the Morningside area of Edinburgh, began driving lessons in November 2025. Having previously driven in several EU countries, he wasn’t a complete beginner. He already had solid road awareness and general driving skills to build on.

The main focus was adjusting to driving on the left-hand side of the road and gaining more experience in a manual car, as he had mostly driven automatics before.

We scheduled weekly daytime lessons, which worked perfectly as Egor works from home and had flexibility in his routine. Living in Morningside meant we were immediately exposed to busy roads regardless of which direction we drove — an excellent way to build confidence and sharpen decision-making early on.

After refining key areas and filling in any small gaps, we completed a mock driving test in the Currie area. This highlighted a few details to improve, and once corrected, we turned our focus to securing a practical test date.

With driving test availability being limited, Egor searched regularly and managed to secure a test in Musselburgh. While it’s not a test centre I usually work in, given the current waiting times, it made sense to take the opportunity.

We had four weeks to prepare for the Musselburgh test area, learning the routes and adapting his skills to a different environment. Egor did very well, confidently applying the driving techniques we had developed in Edinburgh to unfamiliar roads.

On test day, with an 8am booking, it was an early 6:30am pick-up. After one final warm-up drive, we arrived at the Musselburgh test centre ready to go. Egor headed out with the examiner, and shortly after, I was delighted to hear he had passed on his first attempt.

A fantastic result, especially adapting to a new test area and driving on the left.

Well done, Egor 🚗
