greenbank lessons driving

Greenbank’s Corinn fits learning to drive around a busy schedule.

Corinn’s dad got in touch to arrange lessons while she was in her final year at school, with exams just beginning and summer fast approaching. She’d already been out a few times with her dad, so we had a good base to build on.

Living in Greenbank, Edinburgh meant there were plenty of useful challenges on the doorstep for a first outing. We began with clutch control, then built steadily until we’d pinned down exactly where Corinn was and what would move her forward fastest. By halfway through that first lesson, we had a clear plan—both for our sessions and what she could practise with her dad between lessons.

Weekly driving lessons followed, and Corinn kept the momentum going by practising consistently. Once we’d worked through the full syllabus, it became a case of refining and polishing. With her theory test passed, the final hurdle was the big one facing many learners right now—finding a practical test date before she left for university.

We paused lessons over the summer while Corinn kept checking for cancellations. Good news: she secured an 8:00am slot in early August at Currie test centre—ideal, because we’d been doing many of our lessons at 7:00am, so the timing felt familiar.

A few weeks before test day we resumed lessons to sharpen everything up, and it was clear her practice with her dad had been to a very high standard. On the day, I collected Corinn at 06:30am for a final warm-up around Currie. The drive was calm and tidy—just what you want before a test.

We parked, headed into the waiting room, and off she went with the examiner. About 40–45 minutes later, Corinn returned with great news: a first-attempt pass with very few faults. A brilliant result and perfectly timed before university. Well done, Corinn!
