Hamish McKenzie – West Linton
Hamish started driving lessons at the start of this year, he had been out a few times with his dad and had a lot of basic skills which we could build on. During our first driving lesson we drove down to Penicuik and around some of its housing estates. Hamish did well picking up on when to use his mirrors and who had right of way which can become difficult in some of the really parked up housing estates. As time went on Hamish progressed very well, not before too long we were heading into Edinburgh where we were using things like the Edinburgh city bypass and dealing with multi laned roundabouts. Hamish was managing to practice with his dad in between some of the driving lessons which helped a lot. When easter came around Hamish was going away on holiday for a few weeks and then straight after that was into his final school exams shortly after that. We managed to fit driving lessons in where we could. Hamish managed to get a driving test booked for the start of July, this worked very well as I was going away on holiday and so was he. Everything was going to plan, but then on the run up to Hamish’s driving test somebody crashed into the back of my car. This was a complete disaster as my car was going to need to go of the road to get repaired and I would be given a courtesy car for to use in the meantime. We were really lucky that the courtesy car that I got was another Seat Ibiza, the only difference was that it was a petrol version. Hamish did really well concentrating on the few lessons we managed to fit in before his driving test. Come test day the examiner would never have known. Hamish passed first time in Edinburgh.
