Lucy – Heriots Edinburgh
Lucy was in her final year at George Heriots in Edinburgh, living outside of Edinburgh learning to drive was going to make a massive difference to Lucy, especially over the summer. Lucy had some free time from school on a Monday so we arranged to do driving lessons on a Monday late morning. We would usually start at her school and finish back there saving us the travel time of leaving Edinburgh and heading back to where Lucy lived.
A few years earlier I had taught Lucy’s sister to drive who had done really well so it was time for Lucy to follow in her footsteps. As the lessons progressed Lucy did well developing her driving skills and was good at taking in information and applying it where needed. After we had been out a few times Lucy started to practice with her mum and dad between lessons which really picked up the pace that she was learning at. The only thing that was slightly different was that the car Lucy was practising in was an automatic rather than a manual car. Lucy seemed to do very well though adapting between each type of transmission which was impressive.
As the day to Lucy’s driving test approached we were doing well making sure there wasn’t anything Lucy was going to find really difficult . Then on the night before Lucy’s driving test disaster struck and my car broke down with an electrical fault! I couldn’t belive it, I had to phone Lucy and explain that we were going to have to cancel the driving test the next day and I would pay for another one. I felt awful letting her down at the last moment.
Thankfully Lucy managed to find another driving test date for just a few weeks later and we were all set to go to that. I still had a replacement car as my Fiesta was still getting repaired. This didn’t worry Lucy though as she was already driving different cars. I was delighted that this time everything went to plan, my car worked and Lucy passed no problem at all. Getting her on the road for the summer. Well done Lucy
