Jenny’s Journey to Driving Success in Edinburgh

Jenny got in touch after I had previously taught her colleague at Edinburgh University to drive last year. She had done a few driving lessons in the past but had never taken it all the way to the test. This time, however, she was determined and excited to finally get on the road.

Working out of the King’s Buildings campus at Edinburgh University, Jenny was able to fit her driving lessons around a busy work schedule. On our first lesson, we focused on figuring out what skills she already had and what areas needed development. Within that first session, we had a clear plan mapped out, ensuring every lesson would be productive.

We scheduled weekly lessons, usually on Mondays around lunchtime. This was ideal—traffic was never completely jammed, allowing us to cover a lot each session. Jenny progressed well, building confidence with every drive. Soon, we introduced mock driving tests to simulate the pressure of the real thing. These practice tests were a great way to highlight areas that needed improvement, and together we worked through each one until she was fully confident.

Jenny was determined and liked having a structured plan for each lesson. Between sessions, she also watched some of the YouTube videos I’ve made to reinforce her learning. With her theory test passed, we were ready to go for the practical test when the time felt right.

After multiple mock tests and fine-tuning her skills, Jenny secured a driving test for early March 2025. On the day of her test, I collected her from her home, and we headed to Currie for one last warm-up drive. She performed well, and I was confident she was ready.

I watched as Jenny set off on her test with the examiner, and 45 minutes later, she returned with great news—she had passed on her first attempt! A fantastic achievement and well deserved. Congratulations, Jenny! 🚗💨
