learning to drive in edinburgh

Kirsty – Biggar

Kirsty started driving lessons while in her final year at university. Having never driven before Kirsty was a complete beginner so we started in West Linton driving to Penicuik and mastering the basics. Kirsty managed to pick things up quickly, especially with weekly driving lessons being the only time that she was behind the wheel. Before we knew it we were regularly departing from West Linton into Edinburgh to see what challenges we could get for Kirsty to take on. The main challenge was Calder road in Edinburgh with all of its roundabouts. This involved getting the hang of all the lanes and various spirals it had to keep you on your toes. After a few runs up and down, Kirsty soon got to grips with it. It was now time for Kirsty to sit her driving test but being in the middle of exams she wanted to wait until university calmed down. We kept lessons going here and there and Kirsty decided she would like to wait until the very end of university so booked a driving test for May. This was great giving us plenty of time to prepare. Kirsty had done really well and managed to pass her university placements for becoming a primary school teacher and was waiting to hear where she was going to be placed for her first job in August. Driving was going to be a must as getting to some schools might be difficult especially from Biggar. On the day of Kirsty’s driving test, she told me that she hadn’t really slept that well and had been dreaming about messing the test up. I felt that she had nothing to worry about as she was fully prepared for the test. I was delighted to find out upon return that Kirsty had passed her driving test on her first attempt in Edinburgh setting her up for her new job in a few months time. What an exciting way to move forward from university. Well done Kirsty
