Kirsty Smyth – Marchmont Edinburgh
Kirsty got in touch to ask if I was free to go out driving with her as I was currently teaching her friend Sam Thompson. Kirsty was looking do driving lessons in Edinburgh, she needed to really familiarize herself with the Edinburgh area as she wasn’t from here. Although Kirsty had taken driving lessons with a few driving instructors before she had been in Leeds and St Andrews, this meant that Kirsty already had a great amount of skills to build on. We started driving lessons in October and Kirsty had a driving test booked in Edinburgh for November. I think it is great to have a test booked to aim for as it keeps motivation high. Kirsty is currently at Edinburgh university studying mechanical engineering so has a very full workload along with trying to learn to drive in Edinburgh. As the date came closer Kirsty and I decided that we didn’t quite have everything ready so felt we should move Kirsty’s test back slightly giving us enough time to fine tune some small details. The problem was that Kirsty had some big exams coming up at university and then after christmas was going to be on a placement for possibly up to eight months. This meant that we had a one the first week of December as or window. In this time we needed to find a driving test and hopefully pass it. This was going to be challenging but then to add to the challenge that week driving examiners were on strike on the Monday and Friday. Luckily Kirsty managed to find a driving test in Edinburgh for the Thursday. This was it, we had one last practice which went well and to add the pressure Kirsty knew she had to pass first time! The next time she would be free to try agin would be the end of the summer. As I stood waiting at the end of the test to hear the outcome, probably more nervous than Kirsty I was delighted as Kirsty had done it, our choice to move the driving test back a few weeks had paid off. Well done.
