From Newborns to New Roads: Sara’s Experience with Edinburgh Driving Lessons
Sara reached out for driving lessons towards the end of summer 2024. She had previously taken lessons with another instructor and had even attempted her driving test at the Currie test centre in Edinburgh but, unfortunately, hadn’t passed. With her previous instructor retiring, she was in search of a fresh approach to get her back on track and ready for another attempt.
We set to work right away, focusing on refining her skills and building her confidence. Week by week, we tackled areas that needed improvement, ensuring she felt comfortable in different driving scenarios. At the end of 2024, Sara took a break from lessons for a planned trip, returning in the new year feeling refreshed and determined. She had her next driving test scheduled for mid-March, giving us plenty of time to prepare. However, life had one more challenge in store—Sara was expecting a baby! She gave birth in mid-February, then impressively returned to lessons at the start of March, determined to finish what she had started.
With the test fast approaching, we identified that perfecting her approach speed at roundabouts would be a key focus. Given that the Currie test area is full of them, we decided to schedule an extra lesson to sharpen this skill. This final session made a real difference, leaving Sara feeling confident and prepared.
On test day, I picked her up just before lunchtime, and we headed out for a final warm-up session, covering a mix of road types and manoeuvres. Sara drove smoothly and confidently, which was a great sign. Arriving at the test centre, we walked into the waiting area, and soon after, the examiner called her name. I watched as she set off on her test, then waited eagerly for her return.
Forty-five minutes later, Sara was back—with a well-earned pass! The examiner had no concerns, and her hard work had truly paid off. Now, she can look forward to getting set up with a car and enjoying the freedom of driving, especially with her little ones in tow. Well done, Sara!
