Sander – West Linton

Sander began driving lessons just as he started his final year at Peebles high school. I had had the pleasure of teaching Sanders older sister Susanne a few years before him who had picked up the driving quickly, so hopefully, Sander would be the same. During our first driving lesson we headed down to Penicuik from West Linton, Sander was very enthusiastic and took in everything we talked about as we drove. I had a feeling he would pick things up quickly, so we advanced from driving lesson to driving lesson stepping the challenge up by heading into Edinburgh fairly early on. Sander did well negotiating some of the larger roundabouts in Edinburgh.  As time went on Sander progressed very well, we carried out lots of mock tests and gave Sander plenty of challenges along the way which he always had a logical approach towards never getting flustered at any point. The consistency was up to a high level, so once Sander passed his theory test it was time to book his driving test. Sander booked for the end of January which was going to be one week after his prelims this just added to the pressure! With his relaxed approach though we had nothing to worry about. Until the day of Sanders test, I had made a huge mistake of thinking his test was on the 31st, not the 30th. This got even worse as I had a test on the 30th at the same time so couldn’t be in two places at once, I felt sick as I have never made a mistake like this. Luckily Sanders mum managed to save the day agreeing that she would come up to Currie in her car with Sander so he could sit the test. I rushed out and bought a mirror for their car so it was all ready for the examiner. The great news was even with me making this awful mistake it didn’t seem to bother Sander who went out in his mums’ car and passed his test first time with only two driving faults! I was so happy and huge thanks to Kitti who was able to come up with her car to save the day.
