William Mclelland – Peebles
William’s mum got in touch to arrange driving lessons for his seventeenth birthday in August this year. We arranged to go out first thing in the morning on the day which was during the school summer holidays. William’s mum said she didn’t think he would have any problems getting out his bed early on this occasion. As we took a short drive to find a suitable place to start learning I asked William if he had ever driven before? His response was “No, but I have watched Top Gear since I can remember so I have a good idea” I wasn’t sure what this meant, would we be driving round Peebles as if like the stig? Haha. William was very enthusiastic and had lots of questions which is always great to have a s it brings everything to life. After going out a few time William managed to get insured on his mum’s car and got to practice privately with her. Not after too long we had covered all the features in Peebles and had completed each manoeuvre. William had a lot going on aside from driving lessons, as well as a busy year at school he played rugby for the Peebles Rugby Club this involved him competing in rugby games just about each weekend. Due to all these commitments and the driving test waiting list in Peebles we decided that we would take a break from driving lessons and William could continue to practice with his mum and we could resume nearer the time of the driving test which was booked for the start of November. This worked very well as when I met up with William three days before his driving test he was extremely consistent! All the driving practice that he had done with his mum around Peebles had made such a difference. William had managed to stay injury free from rugby on the lead up to the driving test which is always another thing that could happen. When the test day rolled in I felt William couldn’t really be more prepared and he didn’t disappoint passing his driving test first time in Peebles, showing the examiner he was more than ready to take to the road. Well done William.
