Jamie Monks – Morningside Edinburgh
Jamie’s dad got in touch with me about driving lessons for Jamie’s seventeenth birthday. When I worked with the AA driving school I had been the driving instructor for Jamie’s sister Nicole. Nicole had managed to pass her driving test first time in september 2013 so next up was Jamie’s turn. A few things had changed as I had now left the AA driving school and set up my own independant driving school so I was excited that they had chosen me again. Jamie and I went out on his first driving lesson and chose the Grange in Edinburgh to drive around and master some basic skills., we managed to cover a lot in Jamie’s first driving lesson and because Jamie was getting to go out with his mum and dad between lessons he progressed very quickly. Living in the morningside area of town where ever we drove from Jamie’s was always action packed which I think helped as Jamie got very good with his mirrors and predicting things that were possibly going to happen ahead. The theory test waiting list was around four weeks in Edinburgh when Jamie felt ready to take it, he decided that if he sat the theory test in Galashiels rather than Edinburgh he would be able to sit it the same week. Enthusiastically Jamie and his dad drove down to Galashiels and Jamie got to drive giving him lots of practice on country roads. and the trip was a complete success as Jamie passed the theory test meaning we could now apply for his practical driving test. We had been practicing in the Currie area of Edinburgh during our driving lessons so that’s where we applied. Jamie managed to find a test which was only four weeks away from when he booked it, this gave us a lot to do but was going to be achievable. We worked hard Jamie was always concentrating on improving things and between each driving lesson there was a noticeable difference.. When the driving test day rolled in we headed to the test centre to see how Jamie was going to get on. Jamie told me that the thing he was most excited about was going to be able to visit all of Edinburgh’s McDonald’s. Jamie left the test centre and the sun was horribly low in the sky shining in your eyes wherever you drove in Edinburgh. When Jamie returned we were both thrilled to find out that he had passed first time and was told that the drive was very good and consistent. Well done Jamie manages to keep my 100% pass rate for Boroughmuir high school.
