Lauren – Swanston
Lauren began her driving lessons shortly after turning seventeen, and her brother Robbie had been my student earlier that year. As Lauren was a beginner, we chose a quieter road to focus on mastering the basic controls and perfecting the fundamentals. During the first lesson, we covered everything, from how the car worked to starting and stopping. Lauren was a quick learner, and after just two hours, she was able to drive with instruction on more main roads, which was a great start.
After a few weeks, Lauren started practising with her parents, which was positive as it allowed her to perfect her skills and spend more time behind the wheel. Additionally, Lauren had some free time in her school timetable, so we scheduled regular lessons on Thursday mornings at 7:30 am, which meant she experienced varying traffic volumes during the lessons.
Once we had addressed and perfected the obvious weaknesses, we moved on to a mock driving test to see if there were any other areas to focus on before the real driving test. Lauren stayed positive and determined throughout the lessons, and after passing the mock test, we worked towards the real test.
As the weeks approached the driving test, we were ready, but a heavy snow forecast a week before Lauren’s test made us worry that it might be cancelled. Unfortunately, a cancelled test would have been a disappointment, especially after Lauren had prepared so much.
On the day of the test, I woke up early and saw some snow, but it cleared up by 8 am. After driving around the test area, we confirmed that the test was still on, which was a great relief. I watched Lauren leave for the test centre with the examiner, confident that she would succeed. I was thrilled when she returned with her full driver’s license – a testament to her hard work and determination. Well done, Lauren!
