Learning to drive while studying in Edinburgh.

Seema started driving lessons just over a year ago while studying at Edinburgh University, based at the King’s Buildings campus. Having never driven before, we began right at the start, building skills gradually and methodically.

With Seema’s university timetable, Monday mornings worked well for weekly lessons. We began in a quiet housing estate just off the Morningside area of Edinburgh—an ideal environment to learn the basics without too many distractions. This allowed Seema to focus on clutch control, pedal coordination, and understanding how the car responds.

After a few lessons, once the controls felt more natural, we increased the challenge by driving through Morningside itself. It’s a busy, concentrated area of the city that often accelerates learning, and Seema responded well, adapting quickly to the added complexity.

As the weeks went on, we worked through the range of challenges Edinburgh has to offer and spent plenty of time practising in the Currie test area, where Seema would be sitting her test. Throughout lessons, she was consistently determined and enthusiastic, always keen to improve.

Before long, we introduced mock driving tests to see how Seema would handle the pressure of test conditions. As expected, the first mocks highlighted a few areas to refine, but Seema stayed focused and worked hard to get everything right.

With the long waits for driving tests, Seema managed to secure a test date for January 2026. Because of the extended gap, we took a short break from lessons. When we resumed a few weeks before the test, Seema was straight back into it. After a run of regular lessons, confidence was high.

On test day at the Currie test centre, Seema delivered a calm and controlled drive and passed her driving test—a fantastic result, especially before finishing up at university.

Well done, Seema. A brilliant achievement.
