First-Time Pass After Years Away
Ollie first got in touch for driving lessons back in 2020 while he was in sixth year at school — right in the middle of COVID restrictions. We made strong progress early on, but the next lockdown brought everything to a halt. Before we had the chance to finish up, Ollie headed off to university and learning to drive was put on hold.
In the meantime, Ollie’s younger brother started and completed his own driving lessons with me, eventually making it onto the road. I’m sure that added a bit of motivation for Ollie to return and finish what he started!
At the start of this year, Ollie got back in touch. Impressively, he remembered everything we’d worked on during our earlier lessons. After just a couple of sessions, we were ready to move into mock driving test territory — and Ollie handled that challenge really well. There were a few small areas to perfect, but overall he was very much on track.
The next hurdle was finding a test slot — no small task in the current UK system. Ollie kept checking regularly, and after months of searching, he finally managed to grab a cancellation for the end of July.
We went out for a final warm-up drive around the Currie test area the week before, and Ollie was in great form. On test day itself, I picked him up for one last practice, then we headed to the test centre. I waited patiently… and was absolutely delighted to hear that Ollie had passed on his first attempt.
A huge well done, Ollie — it’s been a long road (literally!) but you stuck with it, and I’m really pleased we got there in the end.
