learning to drive west linton

Aaron – West Linton

Aaron’s mum got in touch to organise lessons for Aaron’s seventeenth birthday. I had taught his brother Cameron to drive a few years earlier. We went out on Aaron’s birthday and headed from West Linton along the moor road to Penicuik, we went over the basic controls and how to start, stop, change gear and some clutch control. When we got to the end of the back road from West Linton we had all the skills we needed to drive around some junctions in Penicuik. We had a quick look at junctions before heading back up the road to West Linton.

After a couple of times going out, Aaron had the foundational skills to head up into Edinburgh during driving lessons. I feel that you learn faster in Edinburgh as there are a lot more scenarios and lots of situations repeat themselves. We looked at roundabouts and any other complicated road systems in the Edinburgh area to try to develop Aaron’s skills which worked.

Not long after us starting driving lessons Aaron was one exam leave from school which meant he was available to go out at different daytime slots. This was great as it meant we got lots of different types of traffic and a variety of different traffic situations. Aaron managed to book a driving test for the start of June which at the time was around 5 weeks away. This seemed like a great time scale as we had a few things to sort out but hopefully, we would be ready by then.

Before we knew it June was fast approaching and with just a few weeks until Aaron’s test we were on track. Aaron had also started practising with his mum in the last few weeks leading up to his driving test. This really helped bring things together.

On the day of Aaron’s test, we left West Linoton first thing in the morning and headed for Edinburgh to carry out one last practice.

I was thrilled to find out on his return that he had passed on his first attempt with compliments from the examiner. Well done Aaron
