Rowetta – Buckstone

Rowetta began driving lessons at the very end of last year. Living in the Buckstone area of Edinburgh we started on our first driving lesson going along o the Braids. This area is excellent for beginning to learn to drive in Edinburgh as the road is pretty quiet and not too many other things are going on so Rowetta could focus on the basics and get really comfortable with starting stopping and changing gears. Rowetta did well on her first diving lesson and did everything we set out to do.

We then went out weekly and each week Rowetta progressed well. Living in Buckstone meant that we had access to all sorts of challenges depending on which direction we then headed in after leaving her estate. It wasn’t long before we had covered everything and were heading towards carrying out a mock driving test to see exactly how Rowetta was feeling with everything. The mock test went how most peoples do, it had some points that were really good and a few things that we would need to perfect and get better with. The good thing about the mock driving test is that it clearly shows exactly what we need to tighten up.

Rowetta did well practising the things that needed further work and was always asking questions about various scenarios, this is always really good as I can then tell exactly what people are finding difficult. After passing her theory test it was now time for Rowetta to find a driving test that suited her. Rowetta found a driving test in Edinburgh that was still a few months away so decided to stop driving lessons until nearer the time. This seemed like a good idea as we were now at the point we were ready to go for it.

Once we were a few weeks away from Rowetta’s test we resumed and started to build the final bit of momentum leading up to her test. With Rowetta having her driving test in the morning at 0857am this meant that bus lanes would be in action for most of her test but then after 0930am, she would then be able to drive in them. This wasn’t going to be too difficult it was just another thing to keep track of during her test.

Finally, the day of Rowetta’s test was here, I collected her nice and early and we set off to carry out one last practice which Rowetta did really well in. We parked up at the test centre and I had every confidence that Rowetta would be great. And that she was passing her driving test in Edinburgh at eh Currie test centre on her first attempt. Well done, Rowetta is now free to come and go from Buckstone whenever she likes.
